“Wallflower” Collection Artist Statement

Wallflower (noun):“A person who has no one to dance with or who feels shy, awkward, or excluded at a party”

"Wallflowers" is an exploration of hidden beauty, an ode to the subtle, and a testament to the transformative power of emergence. Each flower, delicately rendered in coloured pencil on birch panel, seemingly bursts forth from the enigmatic depths of a black box, symbolising the journey of self-discovery and the revelation of inner splendour.

These botanical pieces serve as metaphors for the human experience. Just as flowers bloom from within, so too does our true essence emerge as we come of age. "Wallflowers" challenges the notion that beauty is merely skin deep, advocating the belief that authentic beauty resides within, waiting to bloom in its own time.

The titles I've chosen for each artwork, such as "Epiphany" and "Ephemeral," are rarely used in everyday language but possess a lyrical, captivating quality. These seldom-used words, laden with exquisite meanings, mirror the essence of the blooms portrayed, and thus, they become an integral part of the artwork's visual poetry. "Wallflowers" beckons you to explore that which resides both within and beyond the surface, in a world where the obscure can blossom into the extraordinary.

Through this collection, I invite you to contemplate the concealed wonders that surround us, urging us to see beyond the surface and celebrate the intricate, hidden treasures that define our existence.

• Original Artwork Size - 16 x 16 inches ( 410 x 410mm )

• Created with Faber Castel Polychromos, Derwent Lightfast & Caran D’Ache Luminance Coloured Pencils

• Made on cradled 19mm thick Birchwood Panel.

• Each piece is finished with a UV Archival Spray after each layer of coloured pencil which protects it from sun exposure and smudging.

Framing

• Professionally framed in an elegant, 9mm thick Australian Oak float frame.

• Final framed size is 17 x 17 inches ( 433 x 433mm ) and is wired & ready to hang on your wall

• The float frame is made with 100% Australian grown oak, this timber is earthy, authentic and on trend. Each frame is made to fit the accompanying board with an approximately 5mm float gap between the panel and frame.
